MACNA 2011 Presenter Profile: Jim Stime, Jr.

Jim started in saltwater back in the early 80’s, “At that time the Undergravel and the Supreme powerfilters were king”. He began working part-time at local fish shops and by 1987 Jim was working for a major aquarium products manufacture. In 1993 he started as an aquarium service manager for another local shop and in 1999 Jim became the owner of his own aquarium service business. Back in 1996 Jim got involved in the both aquarium societies and the internet. As president of MASLA, the Marine Aquarium Society Los Angeles, he hosted MACNA 10 in 1998. In 2002 he built one of the first on-line aquarium e-commerce web sites and in 2005 developed, patented and trademarked the Jelliquarium, a jellyfish display system, along with pioneering the keeping jellyfish in the aquarium hobby. His You-Tube Aquarium Reality TV hit, LA Fishguys, began with a cylinder tank installation and now encompasses three years of Jims collective aquarium businesses and  what he has learned over the years.

LA Fishguys has just aired its 100th Episode. With over 220 You-Tube videos, almost 6500 You-Tube Subscribers and over 2.2 million total You-Tube videos viewed to date,…. but who is and where did LA Fishguys come from? What I have planned is a short power point presentation on How LA Fishguys Came About ( or how I turned my aquarium maintenance business into an aquarium reality show ), and a 30 minute plus video on the mysteriously missing first LA Fishguys episodes titled The Best of the Original 35 LA Fishguys Episodes. We will also be filming an upcoming MACNA episode at this conference.
